Part 1 - What can Adi Shankara teach us about teaching? ( with Mudakaratha Modakam)







Dr. Jacqueline Suthren Hirst, Senior Lecturer in South Asian Studies at the University of Manchester explores Adi Sankara's understanding of the teaching techniques in the Upanishads, ancient Hindu scriptures, and how we can use similar techniques to engage people today. Dr Jacqueline Suthren Hirst is is author of Sita's Story (RMEP, 1997) and Samkara's Advaita Vedanta: a way of teaching (RoutledgeCurzon 2005) and joint author with John Zavos of Religious Traditions in Modern South Asia (Routledge 2011). She previously trained RE teachers at Homerton College, Cambridge, and has been involved in a number of workshops with practitioners and academics in Cambridge, Newcastle and Manchester.
