Macao's visitor arrivals in package tours in August soared by 49.4 percent year on year to a record high of 713,383, according to figures released by the city's Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) Friday.
Visitors from the Chinese mainland (513,094), Taiwan (53,358), Hong Kong (33,356) and South Korea (30,532) increased by 46.6 percent, 124.2 percent, 28.8 percent and 113.6 percent, respectively, the figures indicated.
However, visitors from Japan (20,169) decreased by 16.2 percent.
In the first eight months of 2011, visitor arrivals in package tours increased by 12.7 percent year on year to 4,509,362, according to the DSEC.
Meanwhile, Macao residents traveling outbound in package tours decreased by 16.8 percent year on year to 25,846 in August, with the Chinese mainland (64.3 percent of the total), Thailand (8.6 percent of the total) and Malaysia (six percent) being the most popular
