Tianzhu Mountain Geopark becomes UNESCO site

Tianzhu Mountain Geopark in southeast China's Anhui Province becomes the newest addition to UNESCO's Global Geopark Network (GGN).

The spectacular site, located in Anhui's Qianshan County, was added to the network at the UNESCO meeting on world geoparks in Norway on Sept. 18.

With its 45 peaks, 86 unique rock formations, 18 running waterfalls and springs, canyons, secluded caves, and gorges, the park is imposing and tranquil. The area's highest peak is called "Tianzhu Peak" (literally "sky pillar peak"), because it's like a giant pillar reaching into the sky.
