Eight Chinese winners of the Let's Elope to Australia online contest began their free tours of the country on Nov 9.
Their adventures will be broadcast in December on the Travel Channel, which has partnered with the travel administration Tourism Australia to pay for their admissions to scenic spots, roundtrip plane tickets, accommodation and food.
More than 1,600 Chinese posted about their hopes of winning the competition on Sina Weibo, China's most popular micro blog.
Three groups took the lion's share of online votes and excelled in the interview stages. One is a Chinese woman, who was crowned Ms New York, and her parents. Another is a pair of lovers in a long-distance relationship. The third is a group of three best friends.
