Nature Tracks - Birds of a Feather

The success story of the Ostrich, the largest living bird on earth, is probably attributable to the alliance forged between man and these great flightless birds. Throughout the ages Ostriches have been hunted for their meat, plucked and captured for amusement. However, it is due to the domestic farming of Ostriches that they have not become extinct. They are devoted parents and have some interesting physical adaptations to cope with dust synonymous with the arid regions, which they inhabit.
